Description
Summary:Sedimentation as a result of erosion is a problem that must be tackled as early as possible at the area around the reservoir, especially in Jatigede Reservoir area. Therefore, planting trees to prevent erosion on the slopes around the reservoir is important to do. To optimize erosion prevention, plant system strategy and tree species placement are needed. This research aimed to determine the best planting system to prevented erosion, between polyculture and monoculture system. In addition, the selection of species, root analysis and placement of tree species on slopes strategy are also goals in this research. The measurement of erosion was done with ‘small plot method’ sized 20 x 6 m. The selection of tree species was obtained by vegetation analysis while data of roots was conducted by root direct excavation in the field. There are four parameters in roots analysis, Index Root Anchoring (IRA), Root-Trunk Ratio (Sr), Index Root Binding (IRB) dan Horizontal Root Fraction (Fs). The result showed that erosion on polyculture is 0.41 ton hectareˉ¹yearˉ¹ whereas monoculture is 0.61 ton hectareˉ¹yearˉ¹. The erosion in polyculture is better in preventing erosion than monoculture. The result of vegetation analysis was selected six species which its roots should be analyzed. The six tree species are Dalbergia latifolia, Eucalyptus globulus, Cassia siamea, Hibiscus macrophyllus, Swietenia macrophylla and Tectona grandis. Then, placement of tree species on slops used three zones system, there were an upper, middle and bottom zone of slope. By used three zones system, the species that selected to the upper zone is Swietenia macrophylla and Cassia siamea, which selected to the middle zone is Tectona grandis and Dalbergia latifolia and species selected to the lower zone is Eucalyptus globulus and Hibiscus macrophyllus.
