Summary: | Purworejo district is located at southern part of Java Island. At the north and east is bordering by mountains with the highest peak at 1019 and 1040 m above sea level and the southern part is bordering by Indian Ocean. With such natural boundaries, Purworejo District has two completely different landscapes. The north and east are highland and tend to be hilly while the middle and west are lowland and relatively flatter. With such landscapes, rainfall and rainy days at that region are unique. In addition, combinations with global factors such as the El-Niño and La-Niña phenomenon will further add to the uniqueness of rainfall patterns and rainy days there.
This research begin with separating 15 years monthly rainfall and monthly rainy days data into annual data, seasonal data, and data per point. Then from the map obtained spatial maps and cross sections. Also used El-Niño index data to select 4 extreme events. From these data we will get the final result of cross sectional graph on the elevation and spatial maps of rainfall and rainfall characteristics, both in normal times and in the event of El-Niño and LaNiña.
The result shows that rainfall pattern in Purworejo district generally still follow monsoonal rainfall pattern. Spatially, the northern rainfall is higher than the south, and the rainy days in the east are longer than the west. At the time of El-Niño and La-Niña, both phenomena tend to flatten the distribution of rainfall and local rainy days |
