Various research is done by using local zirconia with hope that Indonesia can develop zirconia's function as a solid electrolyte in addition to develop the advanced ceramic technology using the local materials. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This research use zircon opacified which have to synthesis first into zirconia. Zirconia is doped by yttria to form yttria stabilized zirconia. The doping process is done by mixing methode, this methode is the differentiate this research with another research which use precipitation methode. The mixture of zironia and yttria then get compacted on dies which diameter is 1.39 cm and force 30kN. The sample then get sintered on 1400 degrees C for 1, 2, and 3 hours. before and after the sintering process, the sample should be measured for the dimension and the weight. This data is used to know the shrinkage that happens, shrinkage mechanism, and densification. Mechanic property of the sample is represented by the hardness value using the microhardness. From the sample will be analyzed the effect of doping yttria to oxygen ionic conductivity from the YSZ. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> From the experiments during the sintering process, linear shrinkage happens about 17%-25% and the change of weight is 8%-12%. The highest densification with 6 mole%, 8 mole%, dan 10 mole% of yttria added to zirconia happens in an hour of sintering. The densification values are 60.03%, 66.68%, and 62.10%. The result of hardness test is 470-890 on HVN scale. Mass transport mechanim when sintering happens is surface diffusion for 6 mole% and 10 mole% yttria added, but on adding yttria 8 mole% the mechanism is lattice diffusion on grain boundary. By doping of ytrria on zirconia to improve the oxygen ionic conductivity of YSZ is caused by the phase of cubic zirconia which make easier the movement of the oxygen vacansies. text |
