Summary: | Crystal structure of zirconia synthesized using a new method without going through the process of calcination is carried out using base hot water treatment method. Crystal structure of zirconia is not stable at room pressure and temperature that is required of other compounds that function as stabilizer agent to maintain the zirconia crystal phase occurs. Zirconia powders from zirconium (IV) oxychloride as a precursor compound which is reacted with calcium nitrate as a source of a stabilizer CaO and sodium alginate as a chelating agent with the preparation of sol-gel process. Dried zirconia from the reaction of the constituent components incorporated into the alkaline solution of NaOH temperature of 900C for 12 hours immersion followed by 12 hours of stirring, the total processing time in the base hot water treatment is 24 hours. The test results of X-ray diffraction characterization showed the formation of single crystals phase zirconia powders were synthesized by using molar ratio ingredient consist of starting compound, stabilizer, chelating agent, and solvent, respectively 20: 0.8: 1: 4.
