This facilities layout design problem is modelled on Integrated System Design Practicum IV (PPST IV) of Industrial Engineering students of ITB. In PPST IV, students use softwares as decision support system for helping them in designing facilities layout. They are CRAFT and WINQSB. However, this decision support system which actually should provide a good quality solution and userfriendly is not fully met by CRAFT and WINQSB. <br /> <br /> <br /> Therefore, the research is done to obtain data about the shortcoming of this design method. The results of this research then reinforced by interviews with the students <br /> <br /> <br /> of Industrial Engineering of ITB. Evaluation results indicate the need of new facilities design software. The software is expected to integrate the design processes <br /> <br /> <br /> which are still done manual before and able to provide better solution quality so as to improve the efficiency of design and easy to use. <br /> <br /> <br /> This research is a part of that software development. This research especially develops and compiles algorithms which then become the logical flow for the new software building. The reference model used is Self-Adaptive Harmony Search with a development based on the deficiencies and needs identified. The software is called Harmony Search Layout Planning (HMLP). Explanation of the software development delivered in research by Surya (2017). This software is capable of <br /> <br /> <br /> generating layout designs of up to 60 departments with n-1 flows and also complemented by inter-departemental aisle construction recommendations according to the material flow. The software is then tested in this study using 5 real case studies. The results of the trial show that the solution obtain a better quality solution in terms of department’s dimension feasibility and material handling cost which is cheaper to reach 25.55% of the previous design results. Furthermore, the previously manual design process becomes automated by the integration of several models on the proposed method algorithm. text |
