Summary: | COMPETITION BETWEEN THREE PLANTS ( GLYCINE MAX (L.) MERR, CAPSICUM ANNUUM L. AND BRASSICA JUNCEA (L.) CZERN ) A study was conducted on competition between three plants namely soybean ( Glycine max (L.) Merr, chili ( Capsicum annuum L. ) and Indian mustard or sawi ( Brassica juncea (L.) Czera ) using de Wit's model and Completely Random Design (C RD). The result of the study showed that interspecies competition occured between soybean and chili, between. Indian mustard and chili, between Indian mustard and soybean and between the 3 species in a mixed culture of soybean, Indian mustard and chili. The competition showed a tendency to reduction in plant height, stem diameter, amount cf leaves produced and biomass. Analysis of Relative Replacement Rate showed differences in the competition ability of soybean, chili and Indian mustard in a variety of mixtures. Intraspecies competition was shown in soybean, chili as well as in Indian mustard. This sort of corn- Petition tends to decrease plant biomass with the increased number of plant individuals per unit area. |
