STUDY THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION IN BUILDING PROJECT

Building construction activity is one of the reason why global warming occur. If this construction activity doesn’t change to be more environmental friendly, in 2050 the concentration of CO2 gas will touch 500 ppm. Beside that, construction activity has a high number of accident, which is 32%. If...

If this construction activity doesn’t change to be more environmental friendly, in 2050 the concentration of CO2 gas will touch 500 ppm. Beside that, construction activity has a high number of accident, which is 32%. If we compare with how many people works on construction activity which is only 5% from all of the workers in Indonesia, 32% is a very high number. Construction activity also has an increase in number of economy, parallel with the number of building construction activity. To reduce the negative impact because of the construction activity which always increase every year, we need to apply a sustainable construction concept. Sustainable construction is an approaching method to do the construction activity with fulfillment of economic, social, and environmental purpose on this time and future with an application of sustainable principle.

The purpose of this research is to find how the application of sustainable construction in building project and to know the obstacles that contractor face to apply the sustainable construction in building project. Data that used for indicator formulation to measure the application of sustainable construction took from some literature which have a correlation with this research topic. After that, the indicator being weighted from the priority scale. This weighted process is done by people who have a knowledge about sustainable construction with AHP method. This indicator then being used as a tool to measure sustainable construction in the object of research. Object of researches are 1 building project, 5 building project, 3 building project, 4 building project, and 2 building project. With an interview to some of the people that work there, we can get how many indicator that have been applied in project.

From all of the project, the percentage in application of sustainable construction is 82%. The important factor are using local resources, and measuring efficiency in the sustainability of construction for economic aspects. For the social aspects are the attention to the OSH on the work site, providing facilities for workers, and

relationships with the community. For the environmental aspects are energy efficiency, working environmental health on construction stage and water efficiency. The percentage in implementation of sustainable construction by the whole project is 71.45% where the value can’t be compared with certain benchmark because there is no special assessment in Indonesia. From those percentage, implementation of economic aspect is 93.63%, social aspect is 82.86%, and environmental aspect is 59.24%. Based on the average which is 71.45%, there are some research objects that not reached the average percentage, there are 1 Building which build by PT Awith 70.49%, 2 Building which build by PT CA with 65.9%, and 3 Building which build by D with 66.37%. Meanwhile, 4 building that build by PT F and 5 Building which build by PT Ais above the average which percentage of sustainable construction implementation are 85.73% and 76.13%.

From interview, we knew that the obstacle that contractor face to apply the implementation of sustainable construction are from the owner, material for building, workers ability, availability of alternative fuel, not supportive technology, lack of participant awareness, nature condition not support, and different rules for each place. text
