Summary: | Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease which prevalence has been globally increased in the past few years, making both prevention and intervention towards the disease being vital. Pharmacological therapy has been used as the main solution for the issue. However, non-pharmacological therapy which includes interventions on patients’ diet and physical activity is as important in diabetes control. Observational study was conducted to DM patients of Chronic Disease Management Program at Ibrahim Adjie Primary Health Care, Bandung, who used combination of metformin and glimepiride to inspect the diet, physical activity, patients’ adherence towards medication and the success rate of the therapy. Data of patients’ diet was obtained using questionnaire adapted from Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Data of patients’ physical activity was obtained using questionnaire adapted from International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Data of patients’ medication adherence was obtained from interview. The result shows that 96,15-100% patients consumed protein in the recommended amount; 76,92-80,77% patients consumed carbohydrate above the recommended amount; and 96,15-100% patients consumed fat below the recommended amount. Of all participants, 42,31-46,15% were included in moderate physical activity group, 38,46% were included in high physical activity group and 15,38-19,23% were included in low physical activity group. Based on patients’ medication adherence, 53,85% patients reported adherence towards medication, while 46,15% reported skipping medication at least once. Percentage of patients that reached FPG and 2hPG; and random plasma glucose target is 35,29% and 22,22% respectively. Statistical analysis in this study shows no significant difference in FPG, 2hPG and random plasma glucose level based on patients’ diet, physical activity and medication adherence. |
