DEVELOPMENT OF MULTILAYERED ACOUSTIC ABSORBER SYSTEM FROM FELT MATERIAL

Controlling acoustic power is a way to achieve audial comfort. In controlling acoustic power, absorber hold an important role. There are two main types of absorber, porous absorber and resonant-type absorber. Felt material, which is the main material in this thesis, is a porous absorber. Felt is man...

In controlling acoustic power, absorber hold an important role. There are two main types of absorber, porous absorber and resonant-type absorber. Felt material, which is the main material in this thesis, is a porous absorber. Felt is manufactured by reusing processed fibers from textile waste to make layers of felt. In the standard production and development of felt, there are two main parameters, gramasi and thickness which are used to achieve specific absorption characteristic. For optimal development of absorption system, those two parameters are not sufficient because they are not directly connected with the sound absorption characteristic of felt. Because of that, two acoustic parameters from felt are used, characteristic impedance and wavenumber which measured by two-cavity method in impedance tube with IS0 10534-2 standard. The measured data then used as a base to design felt with multilayered concept. This design modification shows felt has a good absorption characteristic (α ≥ 0.5) in high frequency (f ≥ 2000Hz) and better absorption characteristic can be achieved by increasing the felt thickness. The characteristic can also be altered by using another material like plastic along with felt to give felt a wider application. text
