The water coning causes loss of oil production because it obstructs the oil flow rate and the water flow rate will increase. Furthermore, the increase of water flow rate can also cause other problems that decreases the productivity of the well and increase the cost for water treatment. <br /> <br /> <br /> When water coning occurs, the drainage radius is called limited to the area that is formed by the cone. For practical purpose, around the cone area occured effective drainage radius. The area of effective drainage radius is affected by vertival-horizontal permeability, porosity, mobility ratio, flow rate, perforation length, and aquifer strength. Therefore, making additional wells in the area where oil are not drained effectively are meant to drain the reservoir efficiently. <br /> <br /> <br /> This paper is intended to estimate the effective drainage radius of vertical wells through various sensitivity tests towards parameters which take effect. In this case, commercial 3-D simulator is used to model the reservoir and the waterconing phenomenon. Afterward, from the result of sensitivity tests will be conducted a non-linear regression, so that empiric equation is constructed to determine the effective well drainage radius. text
