Description
Summary:PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (PT AMNT) is one of the mining and processing companies of copper with flotation technique. Flotation at PT AMNT uses cyclone overflow (COF) as the main feed and also cleaner scavenger tail (CST) which is re-circulated to rougher. CST has high Cu content that makes CST is economical to process, but in CST there is also high acid soluble copper (ASCu) and sulfur (S) content. ASCu and S content show that CST is in high oxidized condition and also high pyrite content. To encounter the problems that caused by CST is done flotation study with variation of CST addition point on rougherscavenger system and variation of CST treatment using NaHS as sulphidation reagent.

This research started with COF and CST sampling from PT AMNT production plant. The samples then homogenized and splitted. The mixing composition of COF and CST in this study was 97.5% COF and 2.5% CST. Flotation techique that used in this research was sulphide-oxide flotation according to PT AMNT flotation testwork standart. Flotation experiments were performed with variations of CST addition points at stages 1, 2, 3, and 4. The second variation is CST that treated using NaHS, the variations are without NaHS, Eh -100 mV, Eh, -150 mV, and Eh200 mV. Flotation experiments were also performed with different head variations with CST without treatment and CST Eh -100 mV on three different head samples. The last variation was a flotation experiment with the addition of Pottasium Amyl Xanthate (PAX) after mixing of CST with variation of treatment in stage 1. In the experiment with variation of addition point and variation of CST treatment was done assay by size analysis using 212, 150, 75, and 38 μm sieve fraction.

From the experiment result data obtained a decrease in Cu recovery along with the decreasing retention time of CST in process. With the addition of CST in stage 1, the presence of CST treatment with NaHS causes a decrease in Cu recovery. CST treatment with Eh-100 mV obtained increased Cu recovery with the addition of CST in stage 2 or stage 3. Addition CST in stage 4, the flotation process obtained optimum Cu recovery when CST was treated until Eh -150 mV. Flotation by using a blending stockpile sample causes a significant decrease in Cu recovery. Addition of PAX after CST mixing in stage 1 can increase Cu recovery with CST that treated until Eh -200 mV.
