Description
Summary:Isotropic Pre Stack Depth Migration (PSDM) has given many proofs of improving seismic image quality compared with ones yielded from Pre Stack Time Migration (PSTM). However, if we still perform the Pre Stack Depth Migration processing with isotropic assumption, when the medium is anisotropic, then the seismic image yielded from the process will stay less accurate. We need a Pre Stack Depth Migration process that take anisotropic parameters into account, so that the image will be unbiased in depth and velocity estimation.

In this research, I used seismic data from a land survey (offset 4170 meters) with VTI (Vertical Transverse Isotropy) assumption of anisotropic media. This assumption was used due to the presences of thick shale layer and sand - shale interval. Theoretically, this form requires two parameter to describe the media, that is δ and ε. δ is an anisotropy parameter that describe velocity variation near to vertical while ε is an anisotropy parameter that describe velocity variation near to horizontal. These parameters are used in isotropic interval velocity transformation into anisotropic one and also in anisotropic PSDM process. Then I did the anisotropic interval velocity, δ interval, and ε interval updating processes till I got the flattest event of depth migrated gathers.

Generally, anisotropic PSDM give better images in fault delineating, better continuity, and cleaner image. Depth migrated gathers from anisotropic PSDM give flatter, even for far offset, compared with ones from isotropic PSDM.
