Summary: | The provision of thematic parks around residential neighborhood in Bandung city has been transformed, not only as a municipal services parks but also turn as the main factor that make a new movement of the public. The Park now has new functions; as an attractive recreation and entertainment space with attractive theme, good facilities and good physical design. This study purpose is to answer those questions and identifying problems that related to a few concerns and issues; the role of society, impact of existing and the expectation of neighborhood thematic park provision from urban design perspective. <br />

This research is an evaluative study which used a mixed method research that uses a mix of quality and quantity research. This method look at the quality of the physical design of the park and the quantity of perceptions of surrounding community’s suitability requirements, impact and hope of the provision of thematic park. The approach that used in this study is pseudo-evaluation approach with a multiple case study as the strategy. The strategy is used in all of four research object, that are the community around Photography Park, Superhero Park, Music Park and Pet Park. <br />

Conclusions of the research are: (1) the design of the park is still not able to provide comfort, security and safety for the surrounding communities, (2) the acceptability of community showed that up until now the community still not getting into the planning, control and management process of the thematic park. The communities do speak their confusion related to the theme, design, amenities and location of the park. (3) the negative impacts in social view are related to the reluctance of surrounded community to use the park, the tranquility disturbance because of park activities, and social impacts caused by the street vendors and the un-organized vehicle parking around the parks. While in economic impact, the study shows that there is almost no impact, due the differences in market segment between park visitors and economic facilities that exist around the park (4) there are high expectations of society on providing thematic park with the involvement of the community role in the design, control and management of thematic parks. |
