Description
Summary:As an archipelagic nation, Indonesia has the right to claim to sovereignty over all of the sea. Regarding United Nations Conference which took place in 1982 resulted the United Nations Convention on the Law Of the Sea (UNCLOS) defines the management of maritime zones. According to article 76 of UNCLOS states that Coastal States can extend their juridical continental shelf. Indonesia is one of the Coastal States which may potentially extend its continental shelf from the area west of Sumatera, north of Papua, and south of Nusa Tenggara.

The extension continental shelf can be determined by a formula line formed by the sediment thickness and distance from the foot of the continental slope which does not exceed the limit line. Basically, the extension continental shelf can be determined using bathymetry points data, sediment thickness data, state borders data, and base ponts of the baselines data. But in the case study of the extension continental shelf does not have the potential to offend the neighboring country border and also does not have the potential extension continental shelf which formed by formula line from the sediment thickness, so using bathymetry points data and data base points of baseline as basic data in doing research on the extension continental shelf of south Nusa Tenggara.

Bathymetry points data contain values of x, y, and z is processed to form a potential the extension continental shelf base map. Then the base map data combined with the base points of baselines which refer in government regulations number 38 in 2002 and processed to determine the ekstension continental shelf. The result of the extension continental shelf in the south Nusa Tenggara obtained has a total area of 204.47 km2.
