Summary: | Determination of the potential source rock in Block A, West Natuna Basin is still problematic and has a high uncertainty. Several studies have shown that coal shale

from Arang Formation is a rich source rock, but the depth is to low and predicted not a good source rock. As well the Upper Gabus Formation, despite having a good maturity, but based on the analysis of the source rock geochemistry and correlation have not shown positive results.

The research was conducted to enrich the existing maturity models in Block A and made to minimize sources of uncertainty that exist in the source rock in these

blocks. Modeling maturity of the source rock at block A is done by modeling the burial history and backstripping to get the source rock maturity model and then compared with the geochemical parameters for each source rock. To be a potential source rock, besides having a maturity also need the other requirement such as richness and suitable organic materials.

Based on maturity modeling shows every well have been different result. In general, the maturity gained from the Barat Formation, Upper Gabus Formation, Keras Formation, Lower Gabus Formation and Benua/Lama Formation. However,

based on geochemistry parameters and lithology, only the source rock of the Barat Formation, Keras Formation and Benua/Lama Formation considered to be a potential source rock for this area. |
