ASSISTIVE TOOL TO KEEP DATA CONSOLIDATED IN MULTIPLE APPLICATION ENVIRONMENT

Data has become the key of decision making and operational efficiency of many organizations. To be able to be used effectively, data management should be performed properly. The lack of data management experiences have created various data problems, including data fragmentation and duplication. Data fragmentation and duplication complicates the process of finding, choosing, and combining data. Some of the causes of data fragmentation and duplication are the existence of multiple applications, the creation of application-specific data, incomplete meta-data, and term differences on same data value. We need countermeasures to avoid those causes from happening. In this paper, we propose an architecture, workflow, and tool to allow data stay consolidated throughout the development process. The tool consists of a middleware that allows data and its metadata to be accessed from multiple applications, a meta-data tool that enforces complete meta-data documentation and allows meta-data to be searched and understood, and a reference data tool to facilitate the usage of reference data.
