Description
Summary:Choke is an important device in the gas well production that can regulate the amount of gas production by controlling the opening size of the choke. The critical part of the choke regulation is to control the pressure and temperature in order to comply with the production requirement. Pressure drops in choke may cause unexpected decrease of temperature. Freezing can occur due to decrease of temperature when the temperature downstream less than the gas freezing point. Hence the choke opening size will affect the change of temperature. The problem here is to determine the choke opening size so that the downstream temperature can be maintained above gas freezing point. This final project discusses the model of gas flow in the choke to determine the choke opening size which makes the downstream temperature above gas freezing point. This model is divided into three parts: the model of gas flow in tubing, the model of gas flow in the flow-line, and the model of gas flow within the choke. In the tubing the Cullender and Smith equation is used, in the flow-line the Mechanical Energy Equation is applied, and Choke Equation is used within the choke. In each segment, the pressure drop is computed and the downstream temperature can be determined from the pressure drops across the choke. With the given range of allowable temperature the opening sizes of choke are obtained.
