Description
Summary:Crown restoration tooth often requires additional support from the root canal. The aim of this study was to synthesis zirconia posts by sol-gel method using the template of eggshell membrane, strengthening with the PMMA matrix, and chitosan used as coupling agent. The zirconia posts both were synthesized with and without calcination.

The SEM characterization shows the best cross-sectional morphology of the zirconia post synthesizes with calcination process when using the fully dissolved matrix, while the zirconia post without calcination process show its best with matrix 10% (m/v) and chitosan 2% (m/v). The mechanical properties of the zirconia posts were evaluated using three point bending and microvickers hardness tester. The best result of modulus elasticity both zirconia post with and without are 414,14 MPa and 793,19 MPa. The average hardness of the zircona post with and without calcination measured by the microvickers are 1,7 HVN and 2,27 HVN. Further studies must be conducted to optimize the hardness value of the post.
