Description
Summary:Cloth is commonly absorb water from sweat or raindrops. To prevent water absorption, the surface of the clothes need to be modified by a superhydrophobic layer. The superhydrophobic clothes can be used for various technological applications.

In this final project, the superhydrophobic was prepared by spraying a mixed solution containing stearic acid, epoxy, and nanoparticles (SiO2 or ZnO) onto cotton fabric. Concentration of stearic acid and epoxy and weight of ZnO or SiO2 nanoparticles were used as process variables. The superhydrophobic cotton fabric with contact angle 158o, sliding angle 8o, and contact angle hysteresis 4.8o was obtained. This superhydrophobic cotton fabric can be used to separate oil-water solution with 97.14% effectiveness. The samples were characterized by goniometer, Fourier Transform Infrared, and Scanning Electron Microscope coupled with Electron Dispersive Spectrometer.
