Summary: | Dry port should be an important structure in supporting export and import activities of a region. Dry port can create a better interaction between seaport and its hinterland. City of Bandung and its surrounding areas have potential in export of agricultural products, handcrafts, and processing industries, such as textile and textile products, rubber, and products from natural stone. Terminal Peti Kemas Bandung, once was a dry port located in Bandung. Terminal Peti Kemas Bandung can be an infrastructure that supporting those in industries in Bandung and its surrounding areas. But, since January 2017, Terminal Peti Kemas Bandung was changed to be a temporary stockpiling of exports and imports (tempat penimbunan sementara). Currently, there’s a desire to restore the function of dry port at Terminal Peti Kemas Bandung. To be able to acertain whether the re-implementation of Terminal Peti Kemas Bandung as a dry port can provide benefits and to function properly, it is necessary to know the potential of its re-implementation. This research uses concurrent mixed research approach with analysis method used is content analysis, coding analysis, qualitative descriptive analysys, and quantitative descriptive analysis. To know the potential of re-implementation of Terminal Peti Kemas Bandung as a dry port, an analysis using Porter’s 5 Forces Model is performed. In Porter’s 5 Forces Model, there are 5 forces to be considered, inter-firm competition, the threat of entry of a new competitor, the potentital for substitution development, the bargaining power of the uyer, and the bargaining power of the supplier. In addition, in order to know how far the condition of Terminal Peti Kemas Bandung to be perfectly functioned as a dry port, analysis of the condition of factors that influence dry port’s success is performed. There are ten factors that influences dry port’s success, which are location of the dry port, completeness of dry port’s services, connection with the rail network, container repositioning, application of advanced technology, facilitating international trade, government logistics policies, coordination among government agencies, government cooperation with operators, and good human resources in management, planning, and marketing. Analysis of Porter’s 5 Forces indicates that the competition container in the external environment of Terminal Peti Kemas Bandung is low, so Terminal Peti Kemas Bandung has a potential to give a profit when it’s re-implemented as a dry port. However, to be functioned as dry port, there are 9 out of 10 factors that need to be met. There are completeness of services at the dry port ports, improving the quality of rail services, the repositioning of empty containers effectively, applying advanced technology, facilitating international trade, logistic policy support, coordination among government agencies, cooperation between government and operators, and good human resources. |
