This resulted in the need for development of dragon fruit cultivation. This research was conducted to see different lighting level of yellow LED (Light Emitting Diode) which give best effect to flower induction and super red dragon fruit (Hylocereus costaricensis)quality. The Yellow LED were given to dragon fruit’s plants for 4 hours from 7 p.m until 11 p.m within one month (until the end of flowering period) by diffrent value of lumen, which is 350, 470, and 600. The numbers of buds that appear, the percentage of success buds which turns into flower, flower diameter, fruit weight, fruit diameter, edible portion, skin hardness, meat hardness, total soluble solid, and vitamin c were counted during research. The results showed that the yellow LED with the 350 lumen value could induced 2-3 times more flowers, with 49.91% of buds managed to turned into flowers, and flower diameter at 21.33 cm, about 1 cm wider over the other treatments. The 350 lumen value also showing the highest results of fruit quality with 0.5625kg fruit weight, 10.65 cm fruit diameter, 3.64kg/cm2 skin hardness, 5.487kgf meat hardness, 34.10mg/100gram vitamin C, and estimation of productivity about 48 ton/ha/year. The result above showed the lumen value of 350 gave the best effect on flower induction and fruit quality of super red dragon fruit. text |
