Description
Summary:Aluminum is a light metal that is easily to be worn out. Improving the wear resistance of aluminum can be done by adding SiC powder to aluminum to raise its hardness. In this research, the aluminium alloy was melted and mixed with SiC powder that has been oxidized at 10500C for 10 hours to improve the wettability of SiC powder. The addition of 1% magnesium was done to further improve the wettability of SiC in aluminum. It was found that the addition of msagnesium improvs the hardness of the Al-SiC composite. The addition of 10%wt SiC powder proved to be optimal while addition of 15%wt SiC did not improve its hardness significantly. The problem of porosity due to the use of stirrer is a problem that is yet to be overcome.
