TSUNAMI MODELLING BASED ON HISTORY OF THE 1674 AMBON TSUNAMI
Potential tsunamigenic earthquake along Seram Fault has been simulated using COMCOT v.1.7 model and verified with 1674 Wichman Earthquake Catalogue “Earthquake of the Indian Archipelago until the year 1857”. This model using merged data from GEBCO 30 arc second and SRTM 15 arc second for topog...

This simulation is generated by the forearc and the backarc of Seram Faults.

This result has shown that the tsunami heights and its time arrival are effected by the distance between coastline and the source. Forearc mechanism had resulted that tsunami is 3,08 meters high and arrive in 22,4 minutes in Ambon, while Banda Naira got 1,99 meters high and 20,4 minutes aririval time. Meanwhile the backarc mechanism shows Ambon got 3,69 meters high and arrive in 0,9 minutes and Banda Naira 4,22 meters high and 9,6 minutes arrival time. According to the result, we conclude that the most likely source of the Tsunami Ambon, 1674 is the backarc mechanism. text |
