A government’s program that handling this phenomenon is KOTAKU Program (City Without Slum). To make these improvements, need to start by doing the characterization of kampong. The characterization help the determination of handling patterns according to the physical characteristics of each kampong. Characterization is done in all kampong in Bandung with kelurahan as a data unit. Data with kelurahan scale has basically covered kampong in it so it can be assumed that the data is already represented.

This study attempts to identify spatial character of the kampong, identify the kampong typology based on its location distribution, and determine the handling pattern of slum areas in Bandung. In the stages of data processing and data analysis, this study using several tools to process secondary data. Analysis tools used are descriptive statistical analysis, content analysis, spatial analysis, and scoring analysis.

Based on the analysis results of each targets, there are differences in characteristics between kampong that located in the center, inner, or suburbs. One of the differences is that kampong on the suburbs are mostly located on land with registered rights compared to kampong located in the center of the city. Not only that, from the aspect of physical appraisal, there is a score that shows the slumness level of kampong that can be used to determine the slum handling pattern. Slum handling can be restoration, rejuvenation and resettlement with the determination of improvement based on the distribution of location, building density, population density, land ownership status, and conformity of plan.

From the results of this assessment, the pattern of handling should be done in the center city is resettlement because there is no kampong located on the land with registered rights and in accordance with the plan. For slum handling in inner city need to be rejuvenated; rejuvenation and resettlement; as well as restoration and resettlement.
