UV exposure in a specific wavelength may induce inflammation response in the body. Moreover, prolonged UV exposure may cause serious impact which is DNA damage that increases the risk of skin cancer. Despite the standard anti-inflammation therapy, Indonesians are empirically using miana leaf Plectranthus scutellarioides (L.) Bent as an anti-inflammatory agent. The purposes of this study are to determine the local anti-inflammatory activity of miana leaf in UV B λ 310 nm-induced animal model and develop a method for evaluating inflammation by measuring erythema intensity and area of erythema. After ensuring that the method was valid and optimum experiment design was obtained with minimum erythema dose (MED) determination, miana leaves thick extract is prepared by reflux using ethanol as solvent. The extract was further incorporated into biocream base to create cream with miana extract concentration of 25%, 50%, and 75%. Female Swiss Webster mice divided into 9 groups which are sick control group, normal control group, biocream control group, miana leaves extract of 25%, 50%, and75% groups, miana fresh leaves juice group, standard acetosal 10% group, and standard 1% hydrocortisone group are used. The irradiaton time which was used in this study was 30 minutes a day for 4 days continued by giving the test samples and the observation was done once a day for 4 days. The parameters measured in this study which were erythema intensity and area of erythema were analysed with ImageJ application. The result of this study were miana leaves extract of concentration 50% and 75% and also miana fresh leaves juice possess significant (p<0.05) anti-inflammatory activity. text
