Description
Summary:This study was conducted at Batu Aji and surrounding, South Bengkulu District, Bengkulu Province which is located geographically on 4o 10‟ 5‟‟ LS - 4o 15‟ 30‟‟ LS and 102o 57‟50‟‟ BT - 103o 02‟ 10‟‟ BT with area coverage 90 km2 (9 x 10 km2). Geological mapping was conducted in scale 1:25000. The objectives of this study are to understand geological condition of Batu Aji, including geomorphology, stratigraphy, structural geology, sandstone provenance, and to determine hydrocarbon potential of research area through the determination of its petroleum system. Geomorphology of the study area was divided into 4 units: Intrusion Hills Unit, Folded Hills Unit, Plain Unit, and Alluvial Plain Unit. Geology units of the study area were divided into 6 units: Andesite Lava Unit, Carbonaceous Sandstone-Siltstone Unit, Sandstone-Siltstone Unit, Claystone Unit, Granite Intrusion Unit, and Alluvial Deposits Unit. Structure Geology that develops in study area is strike-slip faults, 4 thrust faults, and 6 fold. Thrust fault and fold axis has SE-NW trend while strike-slip faults has NE-SW trend. Sandstone provenance analysis was conducted in 3 units, it was found that sandstone provenance of Carbonaceous Sandstone-Siltstone Unit and Sandstone-Siltstone Unit are originated from deformed, orogenic, and eroded area. Sandstone provenance of Claystone Unit is originated from deformed, orogenic, and eroded area and was influenced by magmatic arc. Petroleum system analysis was conducted for the whole units in this study area. Carbonaceous Sandstone-Siltstone Unit was identified as good but over mature source rock with TOC 1,41%, Tmax 522oC, and kerogen type II/III. Sandstone of Sandstone-Siltstone Unit was identified as reservoir with porosity around 6-8%. Top of Sandstone-siltstone Unit and claystone was identified as cap rock and anticline as structural trap.
