Summary: | Nowadays, environmental damage getting serious attention, not least in road

construction. Development of warm mix asphalt technology now being developed

as a way to reduce air pollution and reduce excess energy use in road construction

This research uses Cariphalte asphalt, a polymer synthesis of PG elastomer types.

To reduce mixing and compacting temperatures, Sasobit additives are being used

with 3% content. The Gradation Mixture Design used is Lataston Lapis Aus (HRSWC).

Asphalt and aggregate characteristics were tested using standard from

General Specification of Highways 2010 edition, 3rd revision. Rheology aspect of

asphalt were measured using Shear Modulus Test, and mixture performances were

measured with Marshall test and Dynamic Modulus test.

Addition of a 3% sasobit additive on Asphalt Cariphalte leads to a decreases in

mixing and compacting temperature. In the Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) Test,

Cariphalte and Cariphalte + Sasobit 3% had PG-70 values. Addition of a 3% sasobit

additive on Asphalt Cariphalte also increases the value of the Ageing Index.

Rheology Test with Asphalt Mixture Performance Tester (AMPT) shows a decrease

in Dynamic Modulus (E *) value and an increase in Phase Angle (δ) value. This

result reveals that there is a decrease in the stiffness of the Lataston Lapis Aus

(HRS-WC) asphalt mix. Results from Asphalt Characteristics Test and Bitumen

and Mixture Rheology Test show, in good conformity, that asphalt and asphalt

mixture is more sensitive to temperature changes with the addition of 3% Sasobit.

In general, the test results shows that decreased mixing and compacting

temperatures due to addition of sasobit additives 3% on Asphalt Cariphalte resulted

in decreased performance as well as an indication of decreased durability. However

the test also reveal that the addition increases asphalt workability / ease of work |
