Summary: | Aren (Arenga pinnata Merr.) or sugar palm is multipurpose plant that produces sugar-containing sap called nira (Indonesia) that can be processed into various kinds of derivative products. Sap obtained from the tapping of male inflorescence . The research conducted in Tegalmanggung, Sumedang Regency, examined the effect of etephon stimulation on the process of tapping of palm trees and the influence of the characteristics of the palm trees (the number of female inflorescence and the sequence of tapped inflorescence) against the volume of sap produced. Etephon was applied at concentration of 2.5% on tapped inflorescence and volume of the sap were measured. Based on the Mann-Whitney statistical test, application of 2.5% ethephon had no significant effect on the volume of sap produced. The Pearson correlation test also shows that the number of female inflorescence in the palm trees is also not correlated with the volume of sap that is produced, while the tap male inflorescence sequence has a strong correlation to the amount of sap produced. <br />
