Description
Summary:Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of Republic of Indonesia are developing Sistem Logistik Ikan Nasional (SLIN) program which aims to increase capacity and stability of fishery production in Indonesia. Indonesia has a large area and consist of thousand islands becomes a challenge for implementation of this program, especially for remote area, because there can be a gap in commodity availability and prices due to long distribution chains. Therefore, an integrated cold chain system is required, one of the solution is the provision of ice plant to ensure the availability of block ice as a cooling medium and to ensure that block ice price remain affordable in remote areas. The refrigeration system in this ice plant design uses a vapor compression cycle with R-410A as a refrigerant. The design process undertaken includes the selection and design of main component for vapor-compression cycle that is evaporator, compressor, condenser, expansion device, and some of the supporting component of the ice plant. Cooling power required for a 5 tons/day block ice plant is 32,3 kW, with cooling time 22 hours. Design process produces refrigeration system with COP 2,05 and compressor power required 15,69 kW at evaporator temperature -20 oC and condenser temperature 39 oC.
