OXYTETRACYCLIN EFFECT ON GROWTH, SURVIVAL, FEED EFFICIENCY GOLD FISH (Cyprinus carpio) INFECTED BACTERIA Aeromonas hydrophila

Oxytetracyclin is known to treat bacterial infections Aeromonas hydrophila in carp (Cyprinus carpio). However, inappropriate use of antibiotics may cause antibiotics not working or bacteria become resistant. The aimed of this study was to determine the effect of prevention and medication and to dete...

However, inappropriate use of antibiotics may cause antibiotics not working or bacteria become resistant. The aimed of this study was to determine the effect of prevention and medication and to determine concentration of oxytetracyclin in treating infected carp of Aeromonas hydrophila. This study consists of two stages of LD50 and in vivo test. The oxytetracyclin concentrations used for prevention and medication treatment on in vivo tests were 5 ppm, 6 ppm, 7 ppm and 8 ppm. Parameters observed were growth rate, survival rate and feed efficiency and water quality. Based on the LD50 test, a 2,8x105 CFU/gram dose of A.hydrophila bacteria can killed 50% of the fish population within 7 days. The results of in vivo test showed that the prevention treatment of 8 ppm had the average length (9,7%), weight (44,4%) and the daily growth rate (95,73%) was highest, the highest survival was found in the negative control treatment 100% and feed efficiency was highest in the positive control treatment of 47.18%. The measured water quality is still within the range of goldfish tolerance. From the results of this study it is concluded that the preventive treatment with oxytetracyclin 8 ppm is quite effective in preventing A.hydrophila infection compared with medication treatment. text
