Summary: | Development and human activities in coastal areas threatens the sustainability of mangrove ecosystems. Mangrove forests is important to be preserved because it is one component of urban green open space and part of a protected forest. Mangrove forests in North Jakarta serves to keep coastal areas from erosion that has resulted in the loss majority of the coastal area in the North of Jakarta. Jakarta mangrove forest is divided into several areas with different management, one of

them is Angke Kapuk Natural Mangrove Park with 99.82 ha wide. This area has been developed into an area with tourist facilities and accommodation since 1995

and opened to public visit in 2010.

This area become the object of study design because the public interest to visit this area is very high, but it encountered many problems that need to be resolved

in planning, design and management. The main problem in this area is the condition of mangrove forests that has been much damaged by garbage, live media, and fault in the layering system based on plant species of mangrove

planting. In addition to the physical problems of the environment, the site also encountered operational and maintenance strategies problem, as well as a lack of

community and visitors engagement in an intensive educational activities and the introduction of the ecosystem features by the park managers. On-site natural

environment feature and natural resources has great potential and should be supported by re-planning of tourist facilities, arrangement of program activities

and appropriate management strategies suggestion.

External issues that can be analyzed on site apparently also associated with the North Jakarta coastal reclamation plan that has been running now. Reclamation of new islands in the North of Jakarta will result in decreasing levels of seawater salinity and blocking of seawater circulation to the shore which results in interference with the growth of mangrove and forest destruction, and the failure of mangrove conservation efforts.

The design goal is to produce a final plan by utilizing the tourism area of natural flora and fauna as a tourist attraction while preserving the mangrove forest areas

according to the principles of ecological design through the introduction of educational tours and ecosystem models. Macro and micro region analysis as well as design criteria and concept was done to answer the problem. The results of the study are in the form of regional masterplan, tourism facilities site plan,

vegetation plans, schemes of circulation path and designing space habitats, as well as the development schemes and rehabilitation stage. |
