Summary:Change in the design of economy-class passenger seat for train to improve passenger comfort and ease of maintenance leads to addition of armrest component which is not found on the previous seat design. The new armrest design is required to have the design that easy to assemble and manufacture so the production costs can kept low as possible. This study then uses Design for Manufacture and Assembly analysis to achieve the design objectives. <br /> <br /> <br /> DFMA is used as a tool to calculate the difficulties of assembling and manufacturing the armrest design. Results obtained from this DFMA analysis consist of assembly time, DFA index, manufacturing cost, and design conformity check with guidelines result. Two design will be built with different features on some components. DFMA analysis will be done on both design to pick the design with the best DFMA analysis result. Differences between both design are then analyzed for their effects with changes in DFMA analysis results.
