Description
Summary:Geological mapping was conducted in the Bahorok Village, Langkat Regency, North Sumatera Province. The study was conducted in approximately 61 km2 area. The purpose of research is to study the geology conditions of research area and lithology which has potential as a reservoir in the research area. The used method is the field geological mapping and analysis of Belumai Formation's depositional environment. Based on the morphology, the research area was divided into three geomorphological units, they are Hills Fault Unit, Pyroclastic Plain Unit, and Alluvial Plain Unit. Based on the lithology, study area stratigraphic consists of eight lithologies namely (from
old to young) Pebbly Mudstone Unit and Unit Limestone as pre-rift deposits, Sandstone-Conglomerate Unit and Claystone Unit as syn-rift deposits, Sandstone Unit, Claystone-Limestone Unit, Tuff Unit, and Alluvial Unit as post-rift deposits. The geological structure of the research area has a northwest-southeast and the northsouth
orientation which consists of structural folds, reverse fault, and the strike slip fault. The geological structure formed by the main force that works with the eastwest
direction in Plio-Pleistocene. Sandstone Unit in the research area has similar characteristics with Belumai
Formation which one of the potensial reservoir formations in Tersier North Sumatera Basin. This unit is deposited on the environment transitions, the barrier island system. Based on facies associations and stratigraphy position, sandstone unit can be divided into three sections, namely the bottom, middle, and upper. The bottom Depositional environment of this unit consists of sand flats, lagoon, and flood tidal delta (?). The middle part of this unit shows the depositional environment of tidal flats, channels, and barrier island. The upper part of this unit is deposited on the environment barrier bar/beach (?) and the foreshore bar.
