One of the central cooling systems is known as chilled water system which uses chiller to cool the circulated water that conditioned the air in the room. <br /> <br /> <br /> Designers must choose the chiller wisely. They sometimes misunderstood that chillers only operate in full-load conditions where in fact, most chillers are now have variable speed motors to adjust with the loads. So, they tend to choose chillers based only on full-load ratings despite a chiller have different ratings on different load profiles. This differences may result in a more expensive annual energy cost. <br /> <br /> <br /> The main goal of this research is to develop an equation to provide designers not only with chiller full-load design efficiency, but also with chiller part-load efficiency. The equation to obtain part-load efficiency in certain local weather condition is called Non-standard Part Load Value (NPLV). <br /> <br /> <br /> In this research project, the NPLV equation of several cities in Indonesia (Bandung, Pontianak, and Kupang) will be obtained by Degree-Hours Method and Radiant Time Series cooling load calculations. The results were compared to actual load profile of a chiller that was operated at Building X. At the end, there is a recommendation to use Air Cooled Centrifugal Chiller by Thermal Care for the most efficient type of chiller to be operated in all three cities, based on their NPLV values. text |
