Cerium ion waste potentially cause interference in various organs of the human body, such as liver, kidneys and lungs. Several methods to remove cerium ion in wastewater have been developed, but this methods may be less effective because the cost of its operation is high and difficult to applied. Adsorption is one of the cheapest, simple and effective method for the process of removing cerium ion waste in water. In the study, the synthesis of calsium alginate powder was done as adsorbent cerium(III) ion. Adsorbent were characterized using FTIR, SEM-EDS and PSA. Optimum conditions were tested in variation of pH, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration of cerium(III) ion, and contact time.
