Several methods to remove cerium ion in wastewater have been developed, but this methods may be less effective because the cost of its operation is high and difficult to applied. Adsorption is one of the cheapest, simple and effective method for the process of removing cerium ion waste in water. In the study, the synthesis of calsium alginate powder was done as adsorbent cerium(III) ion. Adsorbent were characterized using FTIR, SEM-EDS and PSA. Optimum conditions were tested in variation of pH, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration of cerium(III) ion, and contact time. The results of study is showed that <br /> <br /> optimum adsorption occurred at pH 4, adsorbent dosage 0,05 g, initial cerium(III) ion concentration of 200 ppm and contact time at 10 minutes. The process of cerium(III) ion <br /> <br /> adsorption followed Langmuir isotherm model with maximum capacity of adsorption is 79,37 mg.g-1. The results of kinetic study is showed that cerium(III) ion adsorption followed pseudo second order model. The results of thermodynamic is showed ΔH: -13,94 kJ mol-1 and (rumus)S: -0,051 kJ mol-1 K-1. text |
