Feldspar in Indonesia mostly was found in Banjar and Lampung. Feldspar is the main raw material in ceramic and glass industry, but most of ceramic industry in Indonesia prefer to import feldspar from abroad as raw material. This is due to the results of the Indonesian feldspar mine has not reached the standard requirements as a raw material in the ceramics manufacture. Where Indonesia feldspar still contain impurities minerals such as iron oxide which has relatively high level so that the ceramic industry prefer feldspar imports rather than using local feldspar. In the ceramic industry, feldspar has fuction as a fuser and adhesive in the ceramic burning process. The impurities such as iron are very undesirable because that cause color changes in the ceramic body if the levels are too high. Therefore, the research needs to be done so local raw materials can reach the demand of domestic industry and suppress the import of feldspar.

In this research, the reduction of Fe2O3 to feldspar from Lampung and Banjar using reverse flotation. Concentrates and tailings are produced during the flotation process, the impurity such as iron oxide was floated as tailings while the feldspar found in the precipitate or concentrate fractions. Flotation was carried out at a fraction of -200 ± 325 mesh with several variable condition such as pH variation (3. 4. 5. and 6), collector doses (150. 200. 250 and 300 gr/ton), and solid percent (20. 25. 30. and 35%). The characterization of early feldspar samples was performed by microscopy analysis, XRD, and XRF. The resulting concentrate and tailings were analyzed by AAS and XRF to determine the total Fe level and recovery from each feldspar.

The experimental results showed that the best reduction of Fe2O3 was obtained at pH 4, with collector dose 200 g / ton, and 35% solid for feldspar from Lampung. While the feldspar from Banjar was found at pH 5, collector dose 300 g / ton, and 25 % solid. This flotation process is quite effective to Feldspar from Lampung and Banjar to reduce iron oxide level so that can reduce the import of ceramic raw materials. The

reduction of Fe2O3 level in feldspar from Lampung can be done until Fe2O3 0,045% in concentrate (sediment) from Fe2O3 feed 0,415%. The level of feldspar increase from 43.02% to 72.98% with recovery 66.05%. While the felsdpar from Banjar, Fe2O3 levels can be decreased to 0.10% in the concentrate (sediment) from Fe2O3 feed 0.701%. The feldspar also increased from 46.01 to 68.25% with recovery of 55.99. text
