Combat flight simulator is a subgenre of vehicle simulation genre which focuses itself on the operation of military airplanes and its <br /> <br /> <br /> equipment/armaments within a simulated combat environment. Currently the market for combat flight simulator has diminished due to the enormous time and resources required to develop its engine from scratch alone. Several alternatives xist and were developed using a cross-platform commercial game engine, however they’re developed for mobile platform thus limiting their complexity and <br /> <br /> <br /> function, despite they are capable of displaying realistic physics. <br /> <br /> <br /> This project describes the development of a simple combat flight simulator using Unity Engine with exclusive emphasis on realistic fire control radar and both airto- <br /> <br /> <br /> air and air-to-surface weaponry operations. The purpose of this project is to address whether commercial video game engine can be used as an alternative game engine for PC simulation game development, specifically modern combat <br /> <br /> <br /> flight simulator. The simulation features a simple F-16C fighter plane cockpit, which contains a working HUD, Multi Function Displays (MFD), which left MFD serves as Fire Control Radar (FCR) and the right MFD as Electro-Optical Weapon page (WPN) and a Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) component, as well as the simulation environment that consists of a terrain and several air and surface <br /> <br /> <br /> objects which serves as target objects. <br /> <br /> <br /> Testing is performed by performing functionality and error checking on each simulation component, and followed with a comparison analysis with other two similar combat flight simulators used as reference. Comparison result shows that <br /> <br /> <br /> the virtual weapons and fire control radars created for the simulation achieves higher rate of complexity in comparison to the reference simulators. text |
