Summary:The production of alternative biofuel products is increasingly needed by the issuance of ESDM 12 year 2015 regarding the obligations to mix up to 30% - vol of biodiesel in 2020 for commercial diesel vehicles and the recommendation from Japan Automobile Manufacure Association (JAMA) to not use biodiesel above 7.5%-vol. Alternative biofuels products are expected to have same physical and chemical characteristics specification as conventional diesel oil, to offer economic value, to be environmentally friendly, and can be applied and produced commercially in the short-term. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This research aims to evaluate technical and economic aspects of the production of biofuels as a substitute for biodiesel with vegetable oil feed-stock. The alternative biofuel production technology evaluated in this research is the hydrogenation processes that goes through three reaction mechanisms, namely: hydrodeoxigenation (removal of oxygen clusters), decarbonylation (formation of carbon monoxide), and decarboxylation (formation of carbon dioxide). The biofuel product is called HBD (Hydrotreated Biodiesel). <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This research evaluates the use of existing HDO treater unit in Bravo Enam (B6) to produce HBD. The technical study includes an evaluation of the suitability of the process configuration, process equipment performance, and adjustments to operating procedures. Economic assessment includes determining the production capacity, and the economic evaluation of products HBD on the unit.
