Summary: | Antidiabetic activity of water fraction of kemangi herbs (Ocimum americanum L.) had been tested by oral glucose tolerance test and alloxan-induced diabetes mice male (Swiss Webster) has two different mechanism. In oral glucose tolerance test, 250 mg/kg bw water fraction of kemangi herbs significantly lowered blood glucose level (p lebih kecil 0,05) 37,2 percent, 51,7 percent, 35,5 percent and 27,1 percent after 60, 90, 120 and 150 minute treatments. In alloxan-induced diabetes mice, 500 mg/kg bw water fraction of kemangi herbs significantly lowered blood glucose level (p lebih kecil 0,05) 39,9 percent, 42,5 percent and 41,4 percent after 6, 9, and 12 days treatments. The higher dose of water fraction of kemangi herbs is predicted to facilitate regeneration of beta-pancreatic cells with was damaged by alloxan. <br />
