One common way to minimize corrosion rate and the formation of scale on carbon steel pipes is by adding a corrosion inhibitor and scale inhibitor along flow in pipeline. The aims of this research was to synthesis of poly(succinimide-co-lactic acid) that can be used as corrosion inhibitor and scale inhibitor on carbon steel. The research stages include in situ synthesized of poly(succinimideco-lactic acid), characterized of product, and determined the power of corrosion inhibition using the weight loss method, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) method, and Tafel method and tested as scale inhibitor by complexometric titration method. Characterization the compound structure of the synthesis results by FTIR and 1H-NMR spectra showed that poly(succinimide-co-lactic acid) have been successfully synthesized. Measurement by EIS method showed the greatest inhibition efficiency as corrosion inhibitor occurred at concentration 125 ppm and temperature 45 ℃ that equal to 18.55%. While the weight loss method showed 2.76% at the addition 100 ppm. The injected inhibitor is a mixed inhibitor. Measurement as scale inhibitor showed 60% at concentration 100 ppm showed that poly(syccinimide-co-lactic acid) can be used as corrosion inhibitor and scale inhibitor. text
