LOW-INCOME FLATS DESIGN AT MOROKREMBANGAN SURABAYA THROUGH URBAN FARMING IMPLEMENTATION

The development of Surabaya as the second biggest city in Indonesia caused high density living problem in urban area. The huge housing demands in urban area without wise strategy will trigerring new slum dwelling. Morokrembangan is one of the area which has this problem. Therefore, Morokrembangan needs improvement on the housing system for low-income citizens. Greeneries transformation into housing buildings could endanger agriculture land and green space of the city. So that, these housing issues will be approached by urban farming concept. Urban farming is farming activity in the limited space of the urban area. This approach involves careful integration of the environment, society and economy aspects as the integrative development. The ideas are to provide the settlements for the low-income citizens as well as their work places. Urban farming at low-income flats design could stimulate a new job opportunities in farming, distributing, and selling. This thesis discuss about urban farming activities in flats which could give higher income possibilities for the occupants more than IDR1.200.000,00 / month. Beside give advantages to the occupants, urban farming activities provide harvest product to fullfill societies daily needs in a larger scale. This concept also creating larger green space of the city with building coeffisient 26,7%, so that the green space coeffisient could achieve 73,3%. Urban Farming implementation in Morokrembangan is a vertical housing system in order to reach social, economy and environment improvement to achieve sustainable architecture.
