ISOLATION OF SECONDARY METABOLITES FROM BARK ROOTS OF ARTOCARPUS LANCEIFOLIUS AND THEIR BIOACTIVITY

Artocarpus is one of the genus that belongs to Moraceae family. It is estimated to have 50 species spread in tropical and subtropical areas such Central America, North Australia, South and East Asia including Indonesia. The spreading of this genus in Indonesia are in Sumatera, Bangka and Kalimantan....

It is estimated to have 50 species spread in tropical and subtropical areas such Central America, North Australia, South and East Asia including Indonesia. The spreading of this genus in Indonesia are in Sumatera, Bangka and Kalimantan. Previous studies have reported that Artocarpus consists of secondary metabolites such as the flavonoids, arilbenzofuran, stilben and calkon. Artocarpus lanceifolius is known to be one of the species from this genus that has secondary metabolites such as flavon, cromon and xanthan. In this research, the isolation of secondary metabolites from bark roots of Artocarpus lanceifolius originating from Sumatera was conducted. The isolation was performed through the maceration method using acetone as solvent, then separation and purification by using vacuum liquid chromatography technique and radial chromatography were conducted. In order to determine isolated structure of the compounds, spectroscopy analysis such as 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and 2D-NMR were done. Based on the method used, there are two known derivatives identified and isolated, which are sikloartobiloxanthon and artoindonesianin Z-5 and its isomers. These compounds undergo substitutions with isoprenyl (C5) substituent on carbon 8 (C-8) and carbon 3 (C-3), which then undergo cyclization forming a ring of pyran and furan. Cycloartobiloxanthon and artoindonesianin Z-5 have also been isolated from Artocarpus lanceifolius’s tree trunks. In conclusion, there are two obtained phenolic derivatives that are substituted by prenyl of Artocarpus lanceifolius’s bark roots, namely cycloartobiloxanthon and artoindonesianin Z-5 and its isomers. text
