Description
Summary:Mining activities in the karst area result in the loss of vegetation and soil layers that inhibit the infiltration process. A small infiltration will affect the surface runoff, flooding, erosion and groundwater reserves in karst areas. To see the influence and relationship of infiltration rate with land cover in karst area needs to be done a research. The research was conducted in Karst Area Cipatat District, West Bandung Regency with the aim to determine infiltration rate on each land cover so that it can be known the ability to store water. The research was conducted on four land cover that is forest, grassland, open land, and ex-mining using double ring infiltrometer and analyzed using Horton infiltration model. Parameters tested were soil physical properties such as soil moisture content, soil density, soil porosity, soil texture, and soil structure. The results showed that infitration rate for forest cover was 0.8 cm/hr, grassland 1.11 cm/hr, open land 2.68 cm/hr, and ex-mining 6.79 cm/hr. Based on the value, it is known that each land cover has different infiltration rate. This is caused by factors influencing infiltration rate. One of the factors that have a great influence on infiltration rate is soil moisture content, that is 63.36% forest, 48.19% open land, 46.85% grassland, and 13.2% ex-mining. This value indicates that the higher the ground water content the lower the infiltration rate. This is due to land cover that has a high soil moisture content has the ability to store large groundwater.
