PLANNING OF AMBAWANG INTER BASIN AS PONTIANAK METROPOLITAN AREA’S RAW WATER SOURCE

The development plan of the Pontianak Metropolitan Area (PMA) area which consists of Pontianak City, Kubu Raya District and Mempawah District with population is predicted to reach 1,500,000 in 2030. Based on the national scope plan, Pontianak Metropolitan area is included in one of the main areas wh...

Based on the national scope plan, Pontianak Metropolitan area is included in one of the main areas which is projected to be a regional development center with the utilization of various leading sectors. The development requires to provide reliable drinking water in quantity, quality, continuity, and competitive purchasing price in accordance with the design of integrated and efficient conceptual water supply system in the PMA region. The presence of seawater intrusion in the dry and very dry seasons is caused by geographic conditions as well as tidal areas. This makes the existing raw water source is not qualified in quality although in terms of quantity is very abundant. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a water source alternative that is feasible in quantity and quality to replace existing raw water sources. The design is carried out using a quantitative approach to conform to the principle of continuous water supply system with the help of Microsoft Excel 2016, Google Earth, AutoCAD 2013, and HEC-RAS 2014. This design consists of construction of Lanbawang Inter Basin Channel (Landak-Ambawang), Ambawang Weir, Intake Ambawang, and transmission pipes connecting intake building and Ambawang WTP. The design is divided into 2 stages. The first stage still uses the existing water sources. However, during the dry and very dry season the source of raw water is taken from the Ambawang Intake to be transmitted to the existing WTP. While the second stage will replace all existing water sources and WTP with the plan of raw water source Ambawang Bendung Lanbawang Canal is processed in IPAM Greater Pontianak. The reliability of the Landak and Ambawang rivers becomes an important factor in determining the feasibility of design. Based on the calculation, it can be concluded that the design of Ambawang river development with inter basin channel from Landak River has the potential of providing sufficient raw water to provide raw water for regional drinking water of Pontianak Metropolitan Area for long period of time. text
