Summary:Banda Aceh is one of the cities in Indonesia which has a stream that divides the city into two. Krueng Aceh River has a history as the main transport route for Banda Aceh in the past. Currently the Krueng Aceh river no longer play a role as a transportation hub but still plays an important role in maintaining the flow of the water from upstream towards the estuary so as not to inundate the city as well as a way to carry storm water runoff in urban areas. The development of the waterfront area of the city of Banda Aceh is divided into 4 segments, which segment 4 Lambhuk as the design area is still a greenfield area due to the lack of development. But this time the segment 4 area begins to experience environmental degradation caused by garbage and household waste dumped on the river area and the area around it. The high rainfall in Banda Aceh and the poor drainage system make this area often gets flooded. Hence the city needs efforts to improve public education and a way to minimize the flood that occurred. In designing this thesis, the waterfront area design methods are used, where the analysis focuses on the waterfront area / river such as the condition of the morphological, ecological rivers and river biota. This thesis concludes that the design of the waterfront area of segment 4 Lambhuk requires the use of educational approaches related to environmental / disaster mitigation, where the creation of educational spaces in the area of the river bank aims to increase knowledge or educate the public about the importance of managing and maintaining urban environments. In addition to educational, the thesis uses a green infrastructure approach as the flood mitigation effort by making the area into a zero runoff area by applying various methods of green infrastructure such as green street / alley, green roof and a retention pond. So, the waterfront area 4 Lambhuk segment is designed as an educational space associated with the environment by applying the system of green infrastructure as a medium of education and the mitigation of flood disasters that often occur in the region. The design of the waterfront area as educative space to make the area as a landmark or interesting icon and became one of the main destinations for local and regional people. So as to increase the value of social and community knowledge of various ages.
