Description
Summary:Mullaca (Physalis angulata L.) and turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val.) have been used traditionally as an antidiabetic agent. Based on previous research, mullaca water extract at doses of 5 and 10 mg/kg bw, and turmeric ethanol at doses of extract 25 and 50 mg/kg bw have ability to reduce blood glucose level in diabetic mice. The purpose of this research is observing antidiabetic effect combination mullaca water extract and turmeric ethanol extract compared to its single administration in normal mice and alloxan diabetic mice. In glucose tollerance method, only mullaca water extract 10 mg/kg bw reduced blood glucose level in minute 60 significantly different with control. In minute 90 all groups showed significant reduction of blood glucose level which compared to control. Combination of turmeric and mullaca showed not significant reduction of blood glucose level which compared to single administration. In alloxan diabetic method, for 3 days treatment, the combination of mullaca extract at a dose of 5 and turmeric at a dose of 25 mg/kg bw, and of mullaca extract at a dose of 10 and turmeric extract at a dose of 50 mg/kg bw, gave better reduction percentage than single administration. The combination turmeric and mullaca is predicted to facilitate the regeneration of -pancreatic cells damaged with alloxan.
