The main causes of hyperlipidemic is the uncontrolled diet. Benecol® is one of the natural ingredients that is claimed to reduce blood lipid levels. This study aims to apply clinical nutrition and Benecol® to decrease blood lipid level of hyperlipidemic patients. Hyperlipidemic patients with a total cholesterol level >200 mg/dL are grouped into three groups i.e., control (C), clinical nutrition (CN), and clinical nutrition + Benecol® (CNB); each consisting of 15 people with or without using antihyprlipidemic drug. CN was administered once a day and Benecol® 2 bottles/day for 30 consecutive days. Blood lipid was examined on H0, H30, and H45 (15 days after the treatment is stopped) using Lipidpro®. This study begins with the permission of the health research ethics committee faculty of medicine University of Padjadjaran. Results showed that application CN in patients using and not using drug could significantly lowering total cholesterol at H30 (p<0,01) and H45 (p<0,05), and LDL level at H45 (p<0,01) of patients not using drug. While application of CNB in patients using drug could significantly lowering blood total cholesterol level at H30 (p<0,01) and H45 (p<0,05) and LDL at H30 (p<0,05); and in patient not using drug, CNB could also significantly (p<0,05) lowering total cholesterol levels at H30, trigliserida at H30 and H45. Based on the results it can be concluded that the application of CN once a day for 30 concecutive days could decrease total cholesterol and LDL level significantly. Generally, the application of CNB showed the decreasing in blood lipid level bigger than CN only text |
