INVESTIGATION ON PERFORMANCE OF DSSC (DYE-SENSITIZED SOLAR CELL) SENSITIZED BY BLUEBERRY AND CRANBERRY EXTRACTS AS SENSITIZER SOURCES OF ANTHOCYANIN

The need for adequate energy supply is one of the major cause that driven the scientist to search for renewable energy source. Solar cell is an implementation of sun power as renewable energy source. Sun as the source of energy will be converted into energy with the help of solar cell. Dye Sensitize...

Solar cell is an implementation of sun power as renewable energy source. Sun as the source of energy will be converted into energy with the help of solar cell. Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) is a solar cell that made of semiconductor coated with a dye. The most common used dye is N719. This dye is metal based and not environmental friendly. The purpose of this research is to use an alternative natural sensitizer substance that is more environmental friendly. The dye that used in this research made from blueberry and cranberry. This research varied concentration and submersion time. From the UV-Vis characterization result, the anthocyanin composition can be confirmed from the appearance of the peak of wave at wave number 520 nm. Measurement of DSSC efficiency level conducted with an equipment called Solar Simulator. Highest efficiency value 0,13% obtained from submersion of photoanode on blueberry dye 0,1 mM for 2 hours and 0,10% on cranberry dye 0,1 mM that is submerged for 1 hour. The used of anthocyanin was also compared with others natural dye and standard dye N719. Efficiency value from Sophora japonica was 0,11%, blackbean 0,14%, coffee husk 0,10%, and N719 2,0%. <br /> text
