Description
Summary:Coal plays an important role in industry, especially Coal Power Plant as main source of energy. The coal for power plant requires specific properties for plant capacity that have already designed. Hardgrove Grindability Index of coal plays important role in coal beneficiation in Coal Power Plants that uses pulverized coal sized -200 mesh as feed to boiler where the combustion take place. And it is parameterized with specific range of HGI 45-55.

The coal that examined was from West Aceh. With type of coal named IPE: calories value 5301 kcal/kg; HGI 46; with TM 27,5%. AJB: calories value 5057 kcal/kg; HGI 36; with TM 28,5%. BEL: calories value 5044 kcal/kg, HGI27, with TM 30%. The experiments were performed by using a variation of drying time, drying temperature, and composition of the blending. The experiment was conducted for 15 days for each sample which variations in composition of blending has been set.

Research activities was started by the coal sample preparation with quite strict isolation methods, then the treatment are Room Drying T = 25 0C for 6 days, Drying T = 26-30 0C for 6 days, then Oven Drying T = 50-60 0C for 3 days. Which sampling was done in every 2 days regularly to analyze of residual moisture and HGI.

The results showed that there is a significant relationship between residual moisture and HGI value after those sequential treatments. The average tendency is seen with decreasing residual moisture content of as many as 43.2%, the value of its HGI will tend to rise, with an average increase of as much as 13.33%.

Petrography analysis has been carried out as secondary data to see the accuracy between measured HGI and calculated HGI, as well as to see the influence maceral content of coal due to HGI value.
