Summary:Company X is a pharmaceutical industry that has a high number of stock keeping <br /> <br /> units (SKUs) including finished products, starting materials and packing <br /> <br /> materials. It requires inventory control to overcome the inventory and stock out <br /> <br /> conditions. The establishment of a safety stock is necessary to allow for flexibility <br /> <br /> of planning. The aim of this study is to analyze the safety stock on company X in <br /> <br /> order to be base for determining the new inventory warehouse policy. <br /> <br /> The research starts from collecting actual demand and lead time data. The data is <br /> <br /> limited to the finished product. The products is analyzed using ABC analysis. <br /> <br /> Then service level is determined. Economin order quantity (EOQ) is calculated to <br /> <br /> find the optimal quantity of order. Then safety stock is determined by previous <br /> <br /> service level. Based on the calculation of safety stock, order point of each product <br /> <br /> is obtained. This order point is used as new reference in planning. Comparison <br /> <br /> between the production with and without considering safety stock is done. <br /> <br /> Based on the ABC analysis, Company X has 61 SKUs that clasified as A product. <br /> <br /> Comparison of order point ratio according to lead time to forecast demand, <br /> <br /> indicates a difference with stock-level policy conducted by Company X. <br /> <br /> Production planning considering safety stock will increace the amount of stock <br /> <br /> level. Application of safety stock not reduce inventori level.
